Franco Cappelletti - About me
I have worked as a specialist legal translator since 1993, during which period I was the head of the translation department of the Frankfurt offices of two major English law firms for eight years. Using the extensive experience and knowledge in the Anglo-American and German legal systems and the relevant terminology gained by me during that time and, in particular, my in-depth knowledge of the methods and ways international law firms work (including the time pressure often involved in completing a job), I am in a position to offer my clients a specialisation that is quite rare in the translation business; instead of offering an „all-languages and all-areas“ service, I am concentrating almost exclusively on legal translations from German into English and vice versa, whilst specialising further in civil law, and predominantly commercial law. My clients include numerous renowned international law firms, banks and investment companies, as well as large and medium-sized enterprises from various industries.
Legal translations require a lot from a translator: the highest possible familiarity in the source and target language, which is essential for any kind of professional translation work, must be accompanied by a style which, ideally, cannot be distinguished from the language commonly used by an Anglo-American or German member of the legal profession when drafting contracts or pleadings. That approach often requires to refrain from rendering a mere „word-by-word“ or „sentence-by-sentence“ translation. To come as close as possible to reaching that goal is the supreme motivation for me in rendering my services.
I am both a court-certified translator and a sworn interpreter and prepare 30 to 40 certified translations per year for courts and other public authorities.
